Isaiah 9:6
Week 16
Memory Work Week 16: December 20 – December 23
Recite: Monday, December 20 Christmas Eve
K: Once in royal David’s city Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed;
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
But our eyes at last shall see Him Through His own redeeming love
6: Fast bound in Satan’s chains I lay, death brooded darkly o’er me.
Sin was my torment night and day, in sin my mother bore me;
Yes, deep and deeper still I fell, life had become a living hell,
So firmly sin possessed me.
My own good works availed me naught, no merit they attaining;
Free will against God’s judgment fought, dead to all good remaining.
My fears increased till sheer despair left naught but death to be my share;
The pangs of hell I suffered.
1: Now there were in the same country shepherd living out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were greatly afraid.
Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people.”
For there is born to you this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
7-8: Recite “God Loves Me Dearly”
Recite: Tuesday, December 21 Christmas Eve
K: Lord the light of Your love is shining In the midst of the darkness shining;
Jesus Lord of the world, shine upon us.
Set us free by the truth You now bring us.
Shine on me! Shine on me!
K: Shine Jesus shine, fill this land with the Fathers’ glory;
Blaze, Spirit, blaze, set our hearts on fire.
Flow, river, flow, flood the nations with grace and mercy;
Send forth Your Word, Lord, and let there be light.
K: Lord, I come to Your awesome presence, from the shadow into Your radiance:
By Your blood I may enter Your brightness,
6: And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
1: Glory be to God on high
And on earth be peace.
Let us all His praise sing,
Praise and never cease.
7-8: Let us hear about the occasion which is the cause for our rejoicing. This Christmas account is found in the Gospel according to St. Luke, chapter 2, verses 1-20.
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered. This census took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city. Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her first born Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.

Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed;
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
But our eyes at last shall see Him Through His own redeeming love
For that Child, so dear and gentle, Is our Lord in heav’n above,
And He leads His children on To the place where He is gone.

And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were greatly afraid.

For there is born to you this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.
And this will be the sign to you: you will find the Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:
“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
7-8: Recite “Angels We Have Heard on High”
Recite: Thursday, December 23 Christmas Eve
K,6: Lord the light of Your love is shining In the midst of the darkness shining;

K,6: Lord, I come to Your awesome presence, from the shadow into Your radiance:
By Your blood I may enter Your brightness,
Search me, try me, consume all my darkness
Shine on me! Shine on me!
1,7,8: God bless you all in heart and home
And give you such good cheer
That Christmas joy will overflow
And flood the whole new year.
7-8: As we ponder the love which the Father has bestowed upon us, and as we come to a full realization of God’s blessings, our hearts must respond with the Psalm-writer:
I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
