December Activities: As we approach the Christmas season, we center our thoughts upon the Reason for the season, the birth of Jesus Christ. He came into this world as a human being to be our Substitute, to take our place under the Law and to keep it perfectly. But we also must look beyond the cradle and His birth to His cross and death and the empty tomb and His resurrection. Without His death for us as full payment for our sins and without His resurrection back to life, Jesus’ birth would be meaningless. May our Christmas busy-ness be busy about Christ and His Word in our worship, in our visits, in our gift-giving, and in our helping of others. Listed below are the many activities which you are encouraged to participate in–to help make your Christmas celebration truly Christ-centered and blessed.

MID-WEEK ADVENT:
The word ADVENT means “coming.” During this four-week season we prepare our hearts for Jesus’ coming.
1) His coming into the world as a human baby born in Bethlehem to take our place.
2) His coming into our hearts through faith.
3) His coming again on Judgment Day to take us
to heavenly glory.
May your Advent worship prepare your hearts and lives with God’s Word.
This year’s Advent mid-week Series is: REACTIONS TO JESUS’ BIRTH.
We will have a pulpit exchange with Pastors Paul Krause and Mike Schierenbeck. We pray your Advent worship prepares you for your Christmas celebration and worship of the Christ-Child. The first Advent service is Wednesday, Dec. 1st at 7:00 p.m.
Dec. 1 John leaped for joy — Luke 1:41-45—Mark Bernthal
Dec. 8 Herod was troubled with fear — Matthew 2:1-8—Paul Krause
Dec. 15 Shepherds were eager for news — Luke 2:8-20—Mike Schierenbeck

The Lenten season is coming.
February 6th we will be turning our hearts and minds to our Savior’s suffering, death and victorious resurrection in the Lenten and Easter season. We again will have Wednesday evening Lenten worship services for meditation and study on our Savior’s passion. We properly prepare ourselves during Lent by meditating on what Christ has done for us! True preparation therefore, consists of a deep, sincere, sorrowful acknowledgement of our own sinfulness–a confident, joyful trust in Christ’s atoning sacrifice for our forgiveness and a promise before God that with the help of the Holy Spirit we will amend our sinful life. This preparation can only come about through the Word of God. That is why our mid-week services are so extremely important to all.
During these services we read the entire Passion (Suffering) History of our Lord Jesus. Do you know what happened in the upper room and what took place in the Garden of Gethsemane? Do you know what Jesus endured at His trials or the words He spoke to Pilate and the words He proclaimed from the cross? As His children we will want to hear these words again and again. May the Holy Spirit move you to commit yourself to take advantage of these special opportunities and privileges to come and to hear God’s Word and to sing His praises. Plan now to set aside the 6 Wednesday evenings from Feb. 17th-Mar. 24th for a blessed hour of “watching with Jesus.” All services will be at 7:00 p.m.

Our Lenten theme this year is:
Where in the World is God?
1. In the Savior’s solitude (Luke. 18:31-34)
2. In the Savior’s sighs (Luke. 22:39-46)
3. In the Savior’s rejection by His own (Matt. 26:57-68)
4. In the Savior’s rejection by the world (John 18:33-19:1)
5. In the Savior’s stumbling (Mark 15:17-21)
6. In the Savior’s words of power (Luke. 23:32-43)
During Holy Week we will continue our theme on:
Where in the World is God?
Maundy Thursday, April 1st: In the Savior’s feast (Matt. 26:26-30)
Good Friday, April 2nd: In the Savior’s promises (John 19:31-37)
Easter Sunday, April 4th: In the Savior’s triumph (Matt. 28:1-10)

We pray that the Holy Spirit move you to commit yourself to take advantage of these special opportunities to hear God’s Word.
