Memory Work Week 15: December 13 – December 17
Recite: Monday, December 13 Christmas Eve
K: In a little stable far across the sea
Was a little Baby just like you and me.
Not a bed or cradle, not a pillow deep,
But a lowly manger was His place to sleep.
6: Light has broken through the darkness!
Fear has left us;
Hope unites us.
God produced this light for us.
That light would be the Hope of the world.
1,7,8: All my heart this night rejoices
As I hear, far and near,
Sweetest angel voices.
7-8: “Christ is born,” their choirs are singing
Till the air, everywhere
Now with joy is ringing.
7-8: Let us hear about the occasion which is the cause for our rejoicing. This Christmas account is found in the Gospel according to St. Luke, chapter 2, verses 1-20.
And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be r egistered. This census took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.
Recite: Tuesday, December 14 Christmas Eve
K: See the candle burning bright
God has sent His Son tonight.
The dark is gone;
6: And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be taxed. (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth into Judea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. And so it was, that while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
1: Now there were in the same country shepherd living out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
7: Jesus comes to hearts rejoicing
Bringing news of sins forgiven
Jesus comes in sounds of gladness,
Leading souls redeemed to Heaven!
8: Rejoice, then, ye sad-hearted,
Who sit in deepest gloom,
Who mourn o’er joys departed
And tremble at your doom.
Recite: Wednesday, December 14 Christmas Eve
K: In a little stable far across the sea
Was a little Baby just like you and me.
Not a bed or cradle, not a pillow deep,
But a lowly manger was His place to sleep.
Shepherds stood around Him, angels watched with care,
For this Babe was Jesus, lying smiling there.
6: What else do we know about this little baby?
Like the candle on the stand
Giving light to all the land;
May our lights before men shine
That all earth praise God divine.
1: All my heart this night rejoices
As I hear, far and near,
Sweetest angel voice.
“Christ is born,” their choirs are singing
Till the air, everywhere
Now with joy is ringing.

Recite: Thursday, December 16 Christmas Eve
K,6: See the candle burning bright
God has sent His Son tonight.
The dark is gone;
The earth is bright,
For Jesus Christ is born tonight.
6: For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but should have everlasting life.
Everyone should know about this Light of the world.
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light.”
1: Now there were in the same country shepherd living out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night.
And behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them, and they were greatly afraid.
7-8: As we ponder the love which the Father has bestowed upon us, and as we come to a full realization of God’s blessings, our hearts must respond with the Psalm-writer:
I will be glad and rejoice in You; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.
Recite: Friday, December 17 Hymnology Christmas Eve Songs
K,6: Once in royal David’s city Stood a lowly cattle shed,
Where a mother laid her baby In a manger for His bed;
Mary was that mother mild, Jesus Christ her little child.
6: But our eyes at last shall see Him Through His own redeeming love
For that Child, so dear and gentle, Is our Lord in heav’n above,
And He leads His children on To the place where He is gone.
1,7,8: As each happy Christmas Dawns on earth again,
Comes the holy Christ Child To the hearts of men.
1,7,8: Enters with His blessings Into ev’ry home,
Guides and guards our footsteps As we go and come
7-8: All unknown, beside me He will ever stand
And will safely lead me With His own right hand.
